The Impact of an Audience
Sat 29 August | 10am–12pm
Dudley Denny City Library
WRITING FOR THEATRE - FREE WORKSHOP
Who are you creating for? In this practical workshop, discover how audiences shape
storytelling by exploring how the same idea can change depending on who is watching.
Through discussion, reading and creative exercises, you'll explore writing for different settings, ages and communities, while unpacking how audience influences language, theatrical form and creative choices. Along the way, we'll explore the unique collaboration between playwrights, directors, performers and audiences - and why theatre is an artform that only truly comes alive when it's shared.
All experience levels are invited to join in. And while this workshop will use the lens of theatre to discuss audiences, creative practitioners of all artforms are welcome.
This workshop is supported by Mackay Regional Council Libraries.

WRITING FOR THEATRE - FREE WORKSHOP
Inspiration for theatre and performance can come from anywhere.
Join us for a playful exploration of creativity as we hunt for inspiration throughout the library's collections. Using photographs, books, objects and unexpected prompts, participants will discover practical ways to generate characters, conflicts and theatrical ideas inspired by the world around them. Whether you're a writer, artist or simply curious, this workshop is designed to build confidence, spark imagination and prove that great stories can begin almost anywhere.
All experience levels are invited to join in.
This workshop is supported by Mackay Regional Council Libraries.
These events will be held on Yuwi Country, which lies between the O’Connell River in the north, Cape Palmerston in the south, and west to the Eungella Range. I acknowledge the Yuwibara people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I and my collaborators work, play, live, learn, and tell stories.
I pay my respects to Elders past, present, and emerging, and acknowledge and uphold their continuing relationships to land, waterways, culture and community.
I recognise that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are Australia’s first and most enduring storytellers, artists, communities, and creators of culture.
